Now a Baptist Church, this building used to be the first house of worship for the Greek Orthodox Community of the Koimissis tis Theotokos (Falling Asleep of the Theotokos). This building was used as a Greek Orthodox church from 1917 to 1960 and was originally located on Brush Street.
Threatened with demolition with the construction of the 980 Freeway, it was moved to its present location after it was declared a California State Historical Landmark. On the front of the Church it reads in Greek "Among the Churches, Praise the Lord." The community moved to its present location at 4700 Lincoln Avenue in 1960, taking on the name of Ascension Cathedral.
