Fremont is a city in Alameda County, California. The population was 214,089 at the 2010 census.

The city was formed in 1956 as an amalgamation of five East Bay communities: Centerville, Irbington, Mission San Jose, Niles and Warm Springs. It was named after American military officer and politician John C. Frémont.
