South Prescott is a neighborhood in West Oakland. Before WWII, it housed many Latinos and African-Americans who worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Many buildings were torn down in urban renewal projects as well as during freeway and BART construction in the 1950s and 1960s. The neighborhood also has problems with soil contamination due to industrial activity.
