State-owned historic property, formerly the governor's mansion, that's been converted to a conference center. Signage places the property under ownership of the Department of State, State of Delaware.

Built by John M. Clayton 1842. Clayton was born 1796. Died 1856. Secretary of State of Delaware. United States Senator. Chief Justice of Delaware. United States Secretary of State under President Taylor, 1849-1850. He negotiated the Clayton-Bulwer Treaty (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clayton-Bulwer_Treaty).
