Royal Saskatchewan Museum (Regina)

Canada / Saskatchewan / Regina

The Royal Saskatchewan Museum was established in Regina as the Provincial Museum in 1906 to "secure and preserve natural history specimens and objects of historical and ethnological interest." It was the first museum in Saskatchewan, and the first provincial museum in the three Prairie Provinces.

The current building opened in 1955. It is located on the site of the Chateau Qu'Appelle, a Grand Trunk Pacific Railway hotel that was abandoned partway through construction.

  • The steel I-beams where removed from the site after partially being constructed and used to construct the hotel saskatchewan. The 2 story basement was filled in, hence why the museums is so far back, because the foundation and basement walls are still there to this day.
