The Saskatchewan Railway Museum is operated by the Saskatchewan Railway Historical Society. The Saskatchewan Railroad Historical Association (SRHA) was formed in 1987 as a non-profit organization with the following mission statement: "The Association was founded to preserve and interpret Canadian railway and street railway history, especially that of Saskatchewan." In 1991, the Saskatchewan Railway Museum was established to help fulfill the SRHA’s mission.

The museum's collection includes locomotives, street cars, passenger and freight service cars, special cars and buildings.
