telecommunication, tropospheric scatter station
Part of a two-station rearward troposcatter communications chain from the DEW Line to southern landline connections, the Galena Hill site was paired with the Tsiigehtchic site 247 miles to the Northeast to 'jump' communication lines over a large swath of inaccessible terrain. The site was operated by civilian contractors for the RCAF first employed by Canadian National Telecommunications (CNT) and subsequently NorthwesTel. The site ceased operations in the 1980s.
