Soldotna is a city in Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska. The 2008 population was 4,386.
It was incorporated as a city in 1960.

The area was originally home of the Kenaitze Indians and was developed by non-Natives for its rich resources, including fish, timber, and oil. The first homesteaders were World War II veterans who were given a 90-day preference over non-veterans in selecting and filing for property in 1947.

The current economy is driven primarily by commercial and sport fishing along the Kenai River, as well as oil exploration following the discovery of oil reserves in the Swanson River region in 1957.
