  • Anchorage is an awesome place to go...you feel like you're in a small town even though it's not really. Interesting attracting nearby... an overall great place to visit.
  • this is the city i grew up in. a fantastic place. very beautiful. mountains surround 1 half the city with the ocean on the other.
  • It looks a good city for living, but I still prefer the brazilian cities like the giant Sao Paulo, the marvelous Rio de Janeiro and the sun shinning all over the year.
  • Why most US states has it's capitals in small towns like Juneau? Why not Anchorage is the capital if it is the largest and major city in the state?
  • Anchorage and Alaska both are beautiful places with wonderful residents.
  • wow, thug nasty, you're an idiot. I was born and raised here. It's a great place to grow up and while I plan on moving away for a while, I know that I'll always end up back here.
  • As they say, "Anchorage is only 20 minutes from Alaska". I came up in '74 with the Army and fell in love with the place. Fantastic outdoor opportunities for skiing, hiking, kayaking - and all the other "ings" - while nurturing the arts: symphony, choral groups, opera, Broadway productions, etc. Not a place for stay-at-homes!

We do not automatically make population centers the seat of government. There are different reasons for why any given state might have it's capital in a smaller city. Often it is because the city was already the state capital while other cities experienced massive growth after original settlement. Sacramento for example has been the capital of California since the 1850s. Obviously there are larger cities in California but no one is going to move the Capital of the State just because Los Angeles or another city has more people.
