Kodiak is a city on Kodiak Island in the Aleutian island chain of Alaska. The population was 6,130 at the 2010 census.
The site was first settled by trappers in 1792 following nearly 8,000 years of native habitation in the area. Much of the modern city developed around commercial fishing and military bases that were first established during WWII.
