Solid Ground Ministry

USA / New Jersey / West New York / West 36th Street, 440
 charitable organization, mixed-used building

6-story mixed-use building completed in 1886. The facade is clad in red brick and brownstone. The ground floor is rough-faced stone, with two windows on the left and a door on the right, behind a metal screen. The 2nd floor has three bays of large single-windows that were apparently originally taller, as the spaces above and below are filled in with brick; they are topped by bracketed brownstone lintels.

The upper floors have four bays of smaller single-windows (shorted at the 3rd floor) with brownstone sill courses. Those on the 3rd & 4th floor have projecting, bracketed brownstone lintels, while the 5th floor has flatter lintels with thin cornices. The 6th floor has completely flat lintels. The lintels are joined at each floor by short bands of brick of a variety of corbelled patterns. The facade is crowned by a brown metal roof cornice with brackets and dentils.

The exposed west elevation is plain smooth-stucco with no openings. The building is now occupied by Solid Group Ministry.
