277 Fifth Avenue

USA / New Jersey / West New York / Fifth Avenue, 277
 condominium, Modern (architecture)

662-foot, 51-story modernist residential building completed in 2019. Designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects, the tower rises from a 2-story, cube-like retail base, recessed back a bit from it and rising without setbacks, but with a few cut-out, double-height loggias. The base is completely sheathed in glass, with thin metal mullions.

The tower has black cast-concrete piers rising uninterrupted, with bays of silver glass in between. The main entrance is at the east end of the north facade on 30th Street, where the eastern two bays are set back from the glassy commercial base. The entrance has glass double-doors below a black metal canopy.

The north facade of the tower has a loggia just above the base, and a couple more at the top floors, the lower one only spanning the outer bays. The west facade has a 1-bay loggia in the north end of the lower floors, and three more at the top floors, with two at the south end. This end of the facade cantilevers over the small neighboring building to the south. The south facade of the tower has a full-width loggia across the middle of the facade, and two more at the top. The east facade has 1-bay loggias at the top.

The building contains 129 condominium units. The base is occupied by a Valley National Bank branch, and contains a site-specific art installation by Joel Fitzpatrick.
