Estate home designed c. 1938 in the Colonial Revival style by Edward S. Hewitt on originally 27 acres of land for Francis Taylor Pearsons Plimpton, Sr {attorney, financier, diplomat}. Plimpton served as an associate of Root, Clark, Buckner & Ballantine and as a partner in the firm of Debevoise & Plimpton and was a a president of the New York City Bar Association. He also served on the United States delegation to the United Nations at the behest of Adlai Stevenson. Additionally, he was a trustee of Bowery Savings Bank, Phillips Exeter Academy, Barnard College, Harvard University, and Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Union Theological Seminary of New York City.

The home was much later owned by Michael and Marilyn Gladstein who were arrested on counts of animal cruelty.
