residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast

Estate home designed c. 1898 by Grosvenor Atterbury in the Colonial Revival/Long Island Shingle style on 13 acres of land for Robert Weeks de Forest {attorney, capitalist, industrialist}. de Forest served as partner in the law firm of Weeks, Forster, & de Forest, president of Hackensack Water Co., vice president of Long Beach Railroad Co., and president of Dolphin Jute Mills. He was also on the committee of the first Regional Plan of New York. His wife's brother lived 'Boatcroft" in Lloyd Harbor. His son Johnston de Forest inherited the house in 1929. All of the de Forest children lived in Cold Spring harbor: His sister Ethel lived in "Wood Winds" and his other sister Frances resided at "Edgewater". His brother Henry resided at "Meadowview".

The estate was subsequently owned by Douglas Williams who continued to call it "Wawapek". In 1996, a Tiffany window was removed from the home for exhibit but still is in the family's possession. The home is now on the National Register of Historic Places. It was recently restored by Smiros & Smiros Architects.
