Residence designed c. 1896 by the noted firm of Carrère & Hastings for Joseph Henry Harper, Sr. It was later owned by James Samuel Dunstan {financier, industrialist}. Dunstan was a partner in the stock brokerage of Hornblower & Weeks and director of the Mohawk Mining Co., Michigan Mining Co., and Wolverine Mining Co. of Michigan. The house was subsequently owned by Enos Thompson Throop, IV.
