Notes: Fort Southerland is a military fortification erected by the Confederacy during the Civil War. The site was meant to protect Camden from Union troop advances along what was then known as Bradley Ferry Road, an important transportation route of the time. Fort Southerland is one of the sites that is associated with the Camden Expedition (see below). The site is now open as a public park.
