Dancing Bears Sanctuary opened in May 1999 and the first bear was transferred in 2000. Charity, Four Paws campaigns against bear cruelty throughout Europe. Please visit the charity's website for more details.
The Dancing Bears 12,000 sq. m sanctuary is situated in Rila Mountains, 1,200 m above sea level, 12 km from Belitsa Town and 180 km from the capital Sofia. The sanctuary is located in the forest. Each enclosure has wooded areas, pools and digging areas where the bears can play and follow their natural instincts.
Hourly tours with a professional guide are available:
* April-June: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; 1 p.m.-6 p.m.;
* July-August: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; 1 p.m.-6 p.m.;
* September-November: 12 p.m.-6 p.m.;
The last entrance to the sanctuary is at 5 p.m.
There is no tour from December to April as many of the bears are hibernating.
