Rila is national park with Ordinance No.114 from 24.02.1992.
Area: 81046.0 hectares.
Rila national park is the bigest of all three national parks in Bulgaria (the others are Pirin and Central Balkan national parks). It has total land area of 810,46 square kilometers. Here is the highest peak in Eastern Europe - Musala (2,925.4 m).

1. Change in the area - decrease with Ordinance No.397 from 15.10.1999 397-1999;
2. Re-categorization with Ordinance No.397 from 15.10.1999 397-1999;
3. Change in the name with Ordinance No.397 from 15.10.1999 397-1999;
4. Accepting the management plan with Decision No.522 from 04.07.2001.
