150-foot, 12-story office building completed in 1913. Designed by Mulliken & Moeller, it extends through the block to 5 East 38th Street, and is also known as the Craftsman Building. The north facade on 39th Street is clad in limestone above a ground floor framed in grey granite. The main entrance, at the left, is slightly recessed, as is the entrance to the modernized storefront on the right.
The end piers on the upper floors are texturized with carved patterns, running up the height of the facade. The 2nd floor is divided into three bays of double-windows by stone pilasters, with each window separated by a black iron mullion. The 2nd floor is topped by a cornice with an egg-and-dart molding. There are six windows on each of the upper floors (corresponding to the three pairs below), all divided by black iron mullions. The stone spandrels are decorated with panels of textured carved patterns (three per floor) and medallions in the centers. Another cornice with egg-and-dart molding sets off the top two floors, which match the design of the 2nd floor. This facade is topped by a bracketed stone roof cornice. The ground floor is occupied by Empire Safe Co.
The west elevation is clad in dark-brown brick with a handful of single-windows. The south facade on 39th Street matches the north facade, except for at the ground floor, which has a different storefront design of black metal and glass. The ground floor on this side is occupied by Mad Dog & Beans Mexican Cantina.
