Estate home designed for and by Harry Ellingwood Donnell {architect, industrialist} c. 1902 and built by Randall & Miller Construction Co. Donnell was a member of the Hunt & Hunt architectural firm and president of S.S. Hepworth Machine Co. The 33-room Tudor mansion was the focal point of a sprawling 200-acre summer estate as a gift to his wife, Ruth Attmore Robinson. Theodore Roosevelt was a frequent guest and Rube Goldberg drew cartoons in the library.

In 1934, Donnell lost his fortune in the depression and sold some of the outbuildings and land and he transferred remaining ownership to his daughter in 1954. In 1964, the house was sold to John Lang for $25,000. The house transferred hands several times until it was purchased in 1997 by Edward A.T. Carr at an auction from Robert Garlach for $373,000. He completed restoration of the house to the original design by Donnell which was awarded the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities annual preservation award in 2000. The home is currently used as a bed and breakfast contained on 5 acres with the rest of the estate having been subdivided and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
