church, ruins, monastery, Armenian Apostolic church

Paghkatsis monastery (Armenian: Պաղկացիս վանք) or Tetrtsikhe (Georgian: თეთრციხის, meaning: White church) or Akjakale (Turkish: Akçakale meaning: White Fortress) - medieval Armenian monastery named after the nearest settlement and district of Paghkatsis known also from Georgian archives as Palakatsio (Georgian:პალაკაციო) from this name also comes one of the Armenian names of Lake Childir (along with Tzovak-Hyusiso). Even slighte look to the ruins uncovers common characteristics of Armenian architecture of IV-IXX c. A.D. widely spread in nearest Vanand, Shirak Ararat valley and elsewhere. Obvieusly this church was also subjecred to reconstruction by Georgians, combined with addition of construction inscriptions in Georgian, of course with annihilation of older Armenian inscriptions. There are numerous examples how Georgian restorators use new names for the temples. Victims of that so-called "restorations" falled: "Oshkavank" that became "Oshki", Khakhuvank - Khakhuli, Ishkhanavank - Ishani, Chordvank Chordovani and so on...

Frankly, rizing a depressing feeling, that someone trying to impose a notorious complex of smallness on the beautiful people of Georgia, when there is a need to appropriate everything alien in order to seem more than you really are.
