Springvale is a 50% joint venture between Centennial Coal and SK Kores Australia Pty Ltd which started operations in 1992. The mining method is longwall and it is capable of producing 4.5 million tonnes per year of Thermal coal for the domestic and export market which is mainly the Mount Piper and Wallearwang Power Stations, and overseas customers. Coal is trucked to the plants on a dedicated haul road and by rail to Port Kembla. As of 2015 remaining reserves were 49.5 million tonnes which allows for approximately 11 years of mining.
