Small enclosure

Syria / Hhims / as-Suhnah /
ruins, bathhouse, listed building / architectural heritage, caravanserai

The small enclosure of 70x70 meters, protected by a limestone-wall 12m high and 2 m thick, is not certain. Starting under Hisham II 729 the construction works went on till the 10 century and the complex was dwelled till the Mongolian Raids in the early 14th century.
The small enclosure is also built in stone and coated inside with clay brick on stone foundations. Close to the main building is a bathhouse which includes a large hall 20 by 15 meters with two pools fed by water tanks, completed by changing rooms (one for the summer and one for winter) and latrines. There were also three hot rooms located near the heat source and service areas including water tanks.
