Qasr al-Hayr al-Sharqi

Built under the Umayyad caliph Hisham II 729, the site comprizes a small city, a game inclosure and a palace.
An important Umayyad "desert castle" that has been excavated on several occassions. Its main features include a large enclosure, a small enclosure, a bath, a later period mosque, and a 7 km long series of walls with sluice gates creating a watered garden area.
A very impressive site and worth a visit.
