Built: 1922-1923
Architectural style: Wisconsin-style dairy barn
Area: less than 1 acre
Date added to NRHP: 7/21/2004
Notes: This barn was part of a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that investigated the viability of keeping and raising cattle in a climate as harsh as that of coastal Alaska. The experiment was conducted between 1907 and 1931, and this barn is the only remaining structure from that study. Information gleaned from these studies was instrumental in the establishment of several cattle ranches on Kodiak Island in the 1920s.
