This is the approximate location of the base stables or as close as I can get to it following their 'scorched earth' treatment of the area. I was first stationed at March in 1983 and the stables were already old then. There was a large area with chutes, two barns, a bullpen, and Danny later had an additional pasture added so there were now two large pastures where horses could be turned out for the day. Once you were able to get a stall (there was a waiting list), fees were $50 per month per horse. You were responsible for providing your own feed, making your own vet arrangements, and mucking your stall daily. Failure to keep your stall clean could result in fines and eventually eviction. They ran a tight ship, and it was a great place! I don't know why they had to level it. RIP March AFB!
