Banda is a city and Nagar Palika in Badokhar Block Banda Tehsil in Banda District of Uttar Pradesh. The city is said to have derived its name from Bamdeo, a sage mentioned in Hindu mythology as a contemporary of Lord Rama. Bamdeo is said to have had his hermitage at the foot of a hill Bambeshwar near Khutla in Banda.
Banda lies south of the Yamuna river in the Bundelkhand region. It is the administrative headquarters of Banda District. The town is well connected to major cities with railways and state highways. The town is near the right bank of the river Ken, 95 m. S. W. of Allahabad.
This place in Bundelkhand region boasts of Kalinjar Fort, Chitrakoot, the holy land of Lord Ram. Khajuraho is quite near. Land is full with valor and violence due to scarcity of water and employment.

  • A nice place to be there with Family to visit Historical and Mythological Places. Maheshwari Chowk, Sabji Mandi, Police Line sector, Pt.JN College, Bumbeshwar Temple, Hanuman Chowk etc. etc. are the places where Life touches you. Life which is very basic. I didn't get a chance to be there for last 6 years but I remember my times there. Friendly people will greet you like anything. Do visit during winters.

Natural colored stones recovered from the riverbed form the major export of the town. It is also a major agricultural market of the district. The 18th century fort of Kalinjar in the outskirts of Banda is worth a visit. The nearest airport is at Lucknow. Banda Railway Station is on the Jhansi- Allahabad line. The National Highway 76 passes through Banda and the town is connected by road to Kanpur, Allahabad and Lucknow.
