Famous for The Battle of the Strawberry Moon. The Osage had a camp at this mound. I personally have found an artifact on the river bank...up high on the ground. A scraper which was verified by the Oklahoma Archaeological Society.
The Osage were attacked by the Cherokee who snuck up on them, a large battle ensued. It is said the Chief of the Osage is buried somewhere on this mound. Today however it's privately owned. I want to go have a look around so bad. Some artifacts were initially found. Metal arrowheads..yes metal...as well as a few other items.
It is a Historical Marker for the area and a road sign dedicated to it sits along the new Hwy. 88, the mound itself is located on the N. side of old Hwy. 88 along the Verdigris River.
