Anna furnace was originally built in 1869 by Thomas Struthers and others. It was the largest and most productive iron furnace of its kind at the time. In 1896, it was purchased by the Struthers Furnace Company until 1927 when the Struthers Iron and Steel Co. purchased the plant. The furnace was leased by several parties, during the 1940s and 50s, including Kaiser-Frazer and GM. The furnace was shut down indefinitely in 1953 and was dismantled by Youngstown Sheet & Tube in 1966.
