Boardman is a large, sprawling suburb of Youngstown, Ohio. It is a busy community composed of many chain restaurants and seas of parking lots. It is one of the main shopping and retail centers for the greater Youngstown area.

The fast food chain Arby's opened its first location in Boardman in 1964. The store remains open on Route 224 near the Southern Park Mall, owned and operated by the now internationally-known chain.

Boardman was founded by Elijah Boardman in the late 1780s. It was traditionally an agricultural community with grain crops and apple orchards. Around the turn of the century, the railroad led to Southern Park, a horse racing facility on Washington Boulevard. Thus the area was an early draw for Youngstown urbanites.

  • Boardman is a great area. The owner(s) of the San Francisco 49ers football team are based out of Boardman, so is the first Arby's Restaurant. The Southern Park Mall is a fantastic shopping area and not too far away is a shopping center with Barnes & Noble, Target, Best Buy, TJ Maxx, and many other stores.
  • If you've ever been out of the "tri-state" area, if you've ever been 2000 miles away or further in any direction, and you're not 'deluded' by homesickness for family and friends, then you know Boardman is culturally and socially dead, stagnant, cliched, a haven for wanna-bes and poseurs, thieves and hack politicians, and is dead. Former middle class soccer-mom hell.
