Mahimatgad fort was build under the rule of Shivaji Maharaj. The maratha sardar called Anerao was subhedar of this fort. This fort is intentionally situated too deep in the mountains so that it will be relatively free from the enemy attacks. This Fort was used as a place for the rest of soldiers, this fort allowed soldiers to be on duty still they could rest since it was free from enemy attacks. This fort was also used to store treasure. Some people by mistake call this fort as Mahipatgad or Mahimangad... but the correct name of this fort is Mahimatgad. Approach to this fort is from the kundi village.
