184 Waverly Place (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / Waverly Place, 184
 interesting place, apartment building

3-story Federal-style residential building completed in 1828 as a townhouse for Abraham Clark. The first floor has a store with cast iron corner column. The bracketed roof cornice extends around the corner along the West Tenth Street side and is continued at the two houses to the west of it. The ground floor is occupied by Three Lives & Co. bookstore.

The site is possibly the inspiration for the painting "Drug Store" by Edward Hopper (1927). The Silbers Pharmacy might've possibly occupied the site during the period that Hopper had his studio nearby. However, like most of his works, the exact location was never revealed. It is presumed to be this location due to the address of 184 Waverly and the similar placement of the column at center.
