Britton was a town just north of Oklahoma City. Founded in 1890 as a railroad town along the Santa Fe Railroad, Britton was a prime location for trading by local farmers in the early 20th Century. The town saw rapid growth following the construction of an interurban rail line linking Oklahoma City and El Reno in 1908. Britton continued to grow until 1940, but growth fell stagnant durring World War II and the town was annexed by Oklahoma City in 1950. Today Britton is a neighborhood within Oklahoma City, but still maintains an independent spirt with "Old Town of Britton" signs and even a small downtown buisness district along Britton Rd between Western and Classen. Britton is also the home of local music hotspots Size Records and the legendary Conservatory (formerly the Green Door), Oklahoma City's answer to the former CBGB in New York.
