Capitol Hill was originally founded as a seperate city in 1905 until it was consolidated into Oklahoma City in 1911. However, Capitol Hill is unique as it has maintained its own Main Street (Commerce a.k.a. 25th st) and downtown area, as well as its own community newspaper (The Beacon) and Chamber of Commerce, although the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce has since expaned to include all of the Southside. Today Capitol Hill is a center of commerce and culture for the Latino community, but also includes a mixture of other buisnesses such as The Oklahoma Opry, western wear retail stores, and even a Coney Island restaurant. Capitol Hill is not to be confused with the Oklahoma State Capitol, which is to the north and east.
