J. Larocque Anderson Residence (Plandome, New York)

USA / New York / Plandome / Plandome, New York
residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, Colonial Revival (architecture)

The c.1922 Mott B. Schmidt designed white clapboard colonial residence built for attorney Joseph Larocque Anderson, of the firm of Anderson, Ferris, Gasser & Anderson. The land was purchased through the Country Development Co. It was the first mansion built in the Plandome Hills, 6000+sqft 17 room residence with garage under servants wing. Anderson was the son of Sands Point attorney Henry B. Anderson. Shortly after being built, the residence was featured in "The Architectural Record", for November 1923, pg. 487 though the location was mis-identified.

After Larocque Anderson moved to San Antonio, TX, in 1944, the mansion on 4+ acres was sold to John E. Carney, a broker at Reynolds & Co. It was purchased in 1956 by Joseph Adreon Keller, who became chief executive of the Mergenthaler Linotype Co., later Eltra Corp.
