On a hill almost in the center of Svishtov is a fortress, the ruins of which rise to a strategic location, revealing incredible views to the east, west and north. The hill has been fortified far in the past.
After the barbarian invasions of the middle of the 3rd century, a fortress was built on the Kaleto Hill in the northern part of the present-day town of Svishtov. About 150 m southwest of the top of the hill were found two segments of a fortress wall and an outer tower. This wall was built on the slope of the hill and probably surrounded it all, and its construction is typical of the time after the 4th century.
