Original Iliamna village site. This village site at the confluence of the Chinkelyes Creek and Illiamna River existed from the 1700's until 1935, when the 150 residents moved the village to the new site on the western shore of Iliamna Lake 40 miles to the Southwest.

The original village had a United States Commissioner, post office, school, Russian Orthodox Church, and a cemetery. It was moved when the terminus of the Williamsport road was moved to Pile Bay. The residents moved most of the buildings to the new village and other neighboring villages.
