This site was originally the computer centre for the Woolwich Building Society. Later their Head Office building was built on this site. Following the takeover of the Woolwich by Barclays Bank the site ws sold to St James, the property arm of Tesco. Tesco made a planning application for a new hyper-store and housing. There was considerable protest from local residents. In 2010 it was agreed that London Borough of Bexley would acquire the old Head Office building, while Tesco would develop housing on the remainder of the site.
Planning applications have been approved for both the development of the main building for new offices for Bexley Council (this includes the construction of an extension across the rear of the existing building) and the housing o the remainder of the site.
The two old 'computer' buildings have been demolished (end of July 2012)
This will be updated as the development proceeds.
