Western Military Camp on Angel Island.

Nurse Olive Gates took a series of photographs during 1918-1919 while she was stationed here. Slide #52 is what the Golden Gate used to look like before the bridge was built. The photos can be viewed here: www.angelisland.org/slideshow_McDowell_1918-19.pdf

  • My wife and I spent several nights in the officer's quarters at the head of Camp Reynolds in the 1990s. Second floor. Delightful area. Cannon shots during the day and deer grazing on the parade grounds during the dusk hours. Otherwise no activity except the occasional tourist/hiker. Overnight island campers are sharply restricted and quiet reigns supreme. Lay in your bed at night and watch the fog roll over the headlands. Perfect place for a honeymoon or just falling in love again. Not sure how you get permission now a days, but worth a try.
