The Ravenna Army Ammunition Plant (RVAAP) in Ravenna, Ohio, formerly produced ammunition for U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict. About 93% of the property that had been part of the RVAAP now has been transferred to the stewardship of the Ohio National Guard. This transfer created the Ravenna Training and Logistics Site (RTLS). The RTLS serves as a training ground for the Ohio Army National Guard. The remaining RVAAP property is being studied and cleaned up as needed to make its grounds environmentally safe for eventual transfer to the Ohio National Guard.

  • The Ravenna Arsenal is now called the Ravenna Training and Logistics Site (RTLS), licensed for training use by the Ohio Army National Guard, for use by all active and reserve components of the US military, Homeland Security Agency, first responders and law enforcement agencies. The facility provides acreage and facilities to train soldiers, Marines, airmen, Coast Guardsmen and sailors 365 days each year. RTLS currently hosts the Regional Training Institute's Army-certified Engineer School and Military Police School, continuously training reserve and active component soldiers. Much of the training conducted at RTLS prepares military personnel awaiting deployment to Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. RTLS' over 110 miles of roads support day and night wheeled and tracked vehicle convoy training, with simulated ambush sites and improvised explosive device (IED) training sites. RTLS hosts Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard cargo and personnel parachute drops every week, day and night, and supports day and night helicopter operations as well. RTLS also contains a small number of live-fire weapons ranges for training use by military personnel. RTLS is a maturing military training facility, with great importance to military readiness, and provides a growing financial impact to the area.
