Shkorpilovtsi Research Base is located on the beach near the village of Shkorpilovtsi, 50 km south of Varna. Its construction began in 1980 and was officially put into operation in 1983. It consists of a laboratory building and a trestle bridge. The laboratory building provides the necessary laboratories, living and office space and a conference room with facilities for 35 people. The trestle bridge is 230 m long and 7 m high and serves as a platform for mounting of research equipment. The base is used for conducting research in the coastal zone, training of specialists and holding scientific conferences and seminars.
