Umiat is an unincorporated community within the Barrow Recording District of North Slope Borough in Northern Alaska, USA.
Umiat has no permanent residents, and serves as a research camp for oil and paleontology exploration. It can only be accessed by air or boat via the Colville River.
It was established as a Naval Oil Reserve camp in 1944, and was later used as an Air Force base before being taken over by the State of Alaska, who still operates it.
