At the place where Velchova Zavera Square is today, in the 19th century the third economic center of Tarnovo - Bazhdarlaka was formed. There is a fish market, inns and shops selling ready-made handicrafts. In the center of Bazhdarlaka in 1835 the leader of Velchova Zavera, the craftsman and merchant from Tarnovo, Velcho Atanasov Dzhamdzhiyata, was hanged. During the celebration of the centenary of the conspiracy, the monument Velchova Conspiracy was unveiled at this place and from that day the square bears this name.
