The March hospital was built in 1965 and closed in 1996, following Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations in 1993. During its 30-year history, the hospital went through several changes in name and operational chain of command, but it always served Southern California as a regional referral center.

This was the base hospital that serviced not just the active duty personnel, but all the retirees in the region with a fully staffed Emergency Room 24/7. It was the only ER of any kind in Moreno Valley/Sunnymead/Edgemont. The Dental Clinic was also attached to this building.

This was more than just a training hospital and support facility for active duty troops, it was the foundation of healthcare for retirees. It created an incredible hardship upon many of them by shuttering this facility before a replacement was available.
