SS22 SHELL Interlocking (New Rochelle, New York) | railway, interlocking tower

USA / New York / New Rochelle / New Rochelle, New York
 railway, interlocking, interlocking tower

Interlocking along the Metro North New Haven line / Amtrak Northeast Corridor. Junction of the Amtrak-owned Northeast Corridor with the Metro North-owned New Haven line.

Over the course of a decade the entire interlocking was gradually reconstructed to deal with the bottleneck caused by all Amtrak trains crossing across MNRR main line tracks to access the "Hell Gate line" (Northeast Corridor). This replaced the two movable point diamonds on the route from track 1 to the NEC.

New crossovers were added east and west of the main junction to allow more pre-processing of trains and Amtrak trains were routed into a new island platform at New Rochelle before crossing over east of the station.
