railway, abandoned / shut down, LIRR - Long Island Rail Road
Former rail ROW first built in 1871, went through on and off service until finally being abandoned in 1934. The track was relaid with third rail electric power as recently as 1928, but the additional service to the already completed Far Rockaway branch was ultimately not needed. If one looks carefully, remnants of the rail bridge at North Woodmere park can still be seen.
