railway, abandoned / shut down, rail-trail, LIRR - Long Island Rail Road, kppc, historical layer / disappeared object
The Long Island Railroad once supplied coal, freight and limited passenger service directly to the Kings Park Psychiatric Center, with a small platform on the campus and a separate platform at the town's main station. The line was abandoned around 1988. The majority of the rail is long-gone but the majority right-of-way is now a bike trail through the campus (now the Nissequogue River State Park).
