Musala is the highest peak in Bulgaria and the whole Balkan Peninsula, with a height of 2,925.4 m. Musala is located in the eastern slopes of Rila Mountain. Borovets resort is close to it. The peak got its name during the Ottoman rule. According to some sources, the name derives from the Arabian "musela" - "the way to God" or "a place near God". One of the starting points is the Borovets resort. The length of the route is about 5 hours. The last part of the route is steeper.
