A salty lake, which is the winter habitat for many Northern birds. The water body is an exclusive home only for the crustacen 'Artemia', and the unicellular algae Dunaliella. The original Artemia species was nearly completely replaced by Artemia fransiscana, introduced by the provincial Fisheries department.
The lake is exploited as a mine of different chemicals, maily by Shiraz Petrochemical Company.
At the Fire Celebration (Chahar shanbe soory, the last wednesday night of the year) the lake shore is a place for aggregation of people from Shiraz to spend a happy night out.

  • The correct name of this lake is Maharlu
  • Althogh in Farsi the suffix 'che' means 'little', but 'Daryache' means 'lake', and the translation of it to 'little lake' is not correct. You can compare it to Daryache ye Bakhtegan Daryache ye Orumie, etc. We also translate Lake Baikal to Daryache ye Baikal, and it is not a little lake at all!
  • it,s so beautiful.visit it.
  • Looks nice, thanks for photo.
  • Hello, I am originally from Maharloo (correctly is Maharloo NOT Maharlu) and born and raised in Maharloo. One of the most beautiful places in world. I agree, the correct name should be "Lake Maharloo". I live in North America, and every year or two years when I travel to Iran, I spend most my time in Mahrloo. It has beautiful places in up in Mountain Maharloo. The mountain and the lake together make it very unique and beautiful. It also has a mineral spring (Cheshmeh Ab Ma'dani). Hope you guys can visit this place only 35 km south of Shiraz.
