Bushehr

Iran / Bushehr /
city, capital city of state/province/region, seaport

Bushehr is a city on the southwestern coast of Iran, on the Persian Gulf. It is the chief seaport of the country and the administrative center of Bushehr province. It's located about 400 km south of Tehran. It has a hot and humid climate.

The airport is a dual-use facility: civilian air traffic plus IRIAF fighter jets housed on-site. A marine base, more than one naval base, and many mobile missile bases are present in or near the city.

Perhaps best known in the 2000's as the namesake of a nuclear reactor site under construction since the 1970's and ---with Russian aid--- finally being completed in 2010. The Iranian leadership has mentioned 8/28/10 as a possible start-up date.
